Mouth Paste

Mouth Paste was inspired by the 21 Day Sugar Detox led by Balanced Bites last month which my daughter Jennifer and I accomplished successfully woot woot!  We're still avoiding processed foods, gluten and sugar, eating as clean as we possibly can.  One of the challenges of making changes is not being able to chew gum or pop a breath mint, such a simple thing but impossible if you're avoiding processed anything!  Like you, I need to freshen my breath on occasion when I'm away from my toothbrush. My idea is stupid easy but it works so well as a healthy breath freshener I had to share :) If you have coconut oil and a few pure essential oils like Peppermint, Cinnamon, Cassia or Spearmint you got this.

How to Make (stupid easy) Mouth Paste

Small amounts are best unless you have a village to share it with!

  • 1/4 cup organic coconut oil (melted)
  • 6 to 8 drops pure Peppermint essential oil or any other that you prefer.  FYI:  If adding Cinnamon add 4 drops then check for the "hot" factor before adding more.
  • Optional:  1 drop of liquid Stevia for sweet.  It's really not needed but I'll give you the option anyway :)
  • 2 one ounce glass jars

1 ounce glass jars are my favorite size for a lot of things including my salves, they're very portable and refillable.  Just put the jars in the dishwasher, they wash up great. All that's left to do now is pour and let the jars sit until the coconut oil has solidified.   Stupid easy, right? Let's talk about the ingredients of Mouth Paste.  Organic coconut oil is a widely available product and it's health benefits are astounding!  Putting coconut oil in your mouth throughout the day to freshen your breath is a simple way to increase your coconut oil intake.  Mouth Paste can double as a lip balm and Peppermint will plump your lips naturally!  Its safe for your littles ones should they find it your purse.  It's also a hand sanitizer in a pinch.  I feel just fine about using my finger to dip into Mouth Paste because both coconut oil and pure essential oils are anti-bacterial...naturally! Think about iForget about it!  Try something new, wean yourself from the everyday toxins that we tend not to give much thought to like gum and mints.  Read the labels and choose wisely or make your own breath fresheners like Mouth Paste!  I'm sure most of you reading this post have coconut oil and an essential oil or two.  If not, it's time to welcome them into your life :)
