Arthritis Pain Relief Blend

Arthritis Pain Relief Blend
All in the Family

These two hold a dear place in my daughter’s life and share a common ailment, arthritis.
I won’t divulge Clark’s age but Gus (my daughter’s Golden Retriever) is nine.  One has arthritic back pain and the other, knee pain.  In researching a blend for both guys she came up with this winning combination that we’d like to share with you.

3 drops Rosemary
3 drops Black Pepper
3 drops Marjoram
2 drops Frankincense
1 tablespoon carrier oil

For humans and large dogs:  Add pure essential oils to a tablespoon of your preferred carrier oil.  Gently massage topically on stiff, sore affected areas.  Judging by Gus’s reaction to this mini massage with essential oils – you can expect to relax as the discomfort eases.  Jennifer shares that she can see Gus’s back relax after she massages in the blend therefore, he relaxes and can rest.  Apply as needed.

Rosemary for analgesic, warming, circulatory, anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties.  Helps with concentration, decreases stress.

Black Pepper for warmth, digestive aid, relieve sore muscles, joints and stimulate kidneys.

Marjoram is a natural muscle relaxer with analgesic, respiratory and digestive properties.  I love this one for chest rubs when laid out flat with a cold or the flu for it’s expectorant benefits too.

Frankincense and all it’s wonders.  It’s no secret that I feel strongly about pure Frankincense.  Along with being a fabulous anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-depressant, Frankincense amplifies all other essential oils that it comes in contact with.

Warm compress for deep penetration:

4 cups very warm water
1 tablespoon epsom salt
4 drops peppermint (improve circulation)

Add epsom salt and peppermint to warm water.  Soak a clean wash cloth in the very warm water, ring it out and apply to sore, stiff joints until cloth cools.  Repeat several times.

Wow this would be wonderful for my 10 1/2 year old Golden Retriever, but I have a dumb question I was wondering do you massage it into the area that has the joint pain only? Thank you for all of your great advice and recipes too.

Thank you for this. Do you or your daughter have any suggestions or feedback on how to get the oils or blend on to the skin of a long haired (or any) dog? While I can separate the hair and get one drop at a time on a section of skin I feel like most of the blend ends up on our dogs hair when trying to apply enough to cover and massage an area like her back or knee (she had ACL surgery recently and I tried). Also any recommendations on which if any carrier oil has more benefit for dogs or doesn’t it really matter?

Applying EOs is always a challenge with fur. Separate the fur as best you can and apply to the skin in several areas then massage gently in. The EOs will be absorbed and do what they need to do even though you feel you’re not covering the entire area. Any carrier will do, fractionated coconut oil is a good one for furry friends :)
